Do you enjoy watching the line handlers as the cruise ship docks? It can be quite fascinating! We had a great vantage point from our porthole cabin on the Carnival Ecstasy when we came into Progreso, Yucatán, Mexico. The small line is called a heaving line and usually has a weight on the end of it. Crew from the ship throw the heaving line to the dock often with the help of a line throwing gun. The heaving line is connected to the hawsters (heavy mooring lines) that are secured to the dock. Progreso is known for having the world’s longest pier. It is about 4 miles long!
