This one-day Dominica travel vlog explores Emerald Pool, Trafalgar Falls, Roseau, Hurricane Maria’s impact, the Addie K, rainforest roads, and the side of the Caribbean that goes far beyond beaches. In this 44 Unbound travel video, we spend one day in Dominica during a cruise stop and take an island tour with Corey, our guide, and Joseph Smith, our driver. But instead of making this only about the cruise port, this video looks at Dominica as one of the most unique islands in the Caribbean. Dominica is known as the Nature Island, and it immediately feels different from the beach-first image many people have of the Caribbean. This island is mountains, rainforest, rivers, waterfalls, hot springs, volcanic landscapes, and Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our tour begins with a look at the MV Addie K, a vessel pushed onto the coast by Hurricane Maria. Weathered and stranded, the Addie K became one of the first signs that Dominica’s story includes hardship, recovery, and courage. From there, we visit Emerald Pool, where I swim in cold but refreshing water at the base of Emerald Pool Waterfall. We walk through the rainforest, encounter a cultural performance connected to Dominica’s Indigenous Kalinago heritage, and continue through the island’s steep, narrow roads with Joseph Smith behind the wheel. The tour also includes Trafalgar Falls, one of Dominica’s most visited natural sites, along with stops and drive-through moments connected to Dominica’s geology, energy production, the Boiling Lake cable car project, the Botanic Gardens, and Roseau, the capital city. This is not just a beach day, and it is not just a cruise excursion.
