From the port of Valparaiso, Chile, we visited the Museum of Archaeology and History Francisco Fonck in neighbouring Vina Del Mar, Chile. The size of this museum belies the exhibits and artefacts (artifacts) housed inside. There are four main halls, two concentrating on Chilean culture - Rapa Nui (Easter Island) and Mapuche (early Chilean peoples) and a natural history area, all with Chile as the focus. "According to its own definition, the mission of the Francisco Fonck Museum of Vina del Mar is to deliver a summary of the Chilean Prehistory, Ethnography and Natural History. " From an article - https://www.chile-travel-and-news.com/2015/06/museums-of-vina-del-mar.html From the same article, "Founded on November 25, 1937, its name commemorates the remarkable physician, naturalist, geologist, anthropologist and philanthropist of German origin Francisco Adolfo Fonck (1830- 1912) who also made great contributions in the field of archeology." The artefacts are impressive, particularly in the Rapa Nui section. The visit began with a large authentic Moai statue, one of only two authentic Moai statues outside of Easter Island, standing outside the museum. There is everything from shrunken heads to a mastodon bone to taxidermy animals that make Chile their home. It's one of the best museums I have been to, and I love a good museum! #chile #easterisland #fonckmuseum #museum #history #archeology Music from https://www.bensound.com/ License number 204507727 and YouTube Audio Library
