The Galeón Andalucía is an imposing ship with a length of 55 meters, six decks, built of iroko and pine wood and almost 1,000 m² of sail area distributed among its seven sails. It was built carefully and with historical accuracy in Punta Umbría, Huelva, beautifully reflecting the maritime tradition of the Andalusian community. This type of ship was used by the Spanish Crown for maritime expeditions from the 16th to the 18th century. Galleons were intended to make voyages of discovery and establish trade routes between Spain, the Americas and the Philippines, and were part of what was then called the "Fleet of the Indies." For three centuries, these Spanish galleons sailed back and forth across the Atlantic, sailed around the Caribbean Sea and American coasts, and also sailed the Pacific route. They carried countless sailors, traders and settlers, while their holds held the rich cargoes of trade between the Americas and Asia. She has sailed the Pacific and Indian Oceans, crossed the Atlantic, and her wake has stretched across the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, the South and East China Seas, the Aegean Sea, the Bosporus, the Caribbean Sea and the entire east coast of the U.S., covering thousands of nautical miles to evoke the spirit of her ancestors.
