Harmony of the Seas: Three Sisters Meeting (with Oasis and Allure)
YouTube Video Descriptionβ
In November of 2009 Royal Caribbean International took delivery of the world's largest cruise ship, the Oasis of the Seas. A radical new ship that shattered all the records coming in at nearly 50% larger than the previous record holder of the Freedom of the Seas. A year later the second and final ship in the Oasis class was delivered from the shipyard in Finland. When arrived in Florida in November of 2010 Royal Caribbean arranged a special photo opportunity with the two massive vessels off the coast of Ft. Lauderdale together for the first and only time. In May of 2016 Royal Caribbean took delivery of the Harmony of the Seas, a third ship listed as being a part of the class but redesigned with all the latest technologies and evolutions making it slightly larger than the previous members of the class and this time built in France. Following a summer sailing the Mediterranean, on October 23rd she started her inaugural transatlantic journey home for an arrival in Ft. Lauderdale on November 5th. To commemorate this huge moment 7 years after the first arrived, and 6 years after the historic meeting of the first two, on Friday November 4th the world's three largest ships met for the first time. To make the event happen Royal Caribbean worked for over a year to get all the ships into the right places with the Oasis of the Seas arriving to Ft. Lauderdale a day early to debark her guests and join the event empty before relocating to her new home of Port Canaveral with guests boarding the next day. The Allure of the Seas had to change itineraries to make it back to Ft. Lauderdale on Friday before heading back out to Nassau on Saturday and returning back home to Ft. Lauderdale for her scheduled home porting on Sunday. The Harmony of the Seas having the simplest of changes with 9 days to cross the Atlantic Ocean she simply had to speed up to make it to Florida 12 hours early for the rendezvous and then spend the night waiting off shore until it was time to dock in the morning. The meeting began with the Allure of the Seas unexpectedly being first on the scene becoming visible on the horizon from the Harmony of the Seas at 2pm. At 3:20pm the Oasis of the Seas departed Port Everglades becoming the last to join the party. By 3:40 they were starting to get into position and then beginning at 4pm the helicopter arrived to film the whole event as the three sisters spent the next 2 hours in formation and changing leads with one another. The Oasis class has expanded to six ships divided into 3 sets of sisters; Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas, & Wonder of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas.
