HILO HAWAII | Volcanoes National Park | Princess Cruises is a tour offered on the Grand Princess Hawaii itinerary. We take a half-day excursion to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park to view the volcano crater and sulfur banks as well as the visitors center. We walk along the volcanic ridge and explore the natural steam vents. We have one hour for free time to explore the visitor's center and other sights in the area. Just as a heads up, this tour does not view molten lava flowing in the park. We are actually 4,000 feet above sea level. We view things from a distance, but the crater is still actively steaming and is impressive. Also the Thurston Lava Tube was not accessible by bus, if you rent a car you can see it! The terrain is rocky and I would recommend wearing good walking shoes. We did not have the Orchid Garden as part of our tour. It was closed. Princess Cruises refunded a portion of our money.
