Hey Cruisers, If you are new to cruising, or just want to make sure you don't forget anything, this episode is for you. We take a look at a few things you can do to get ready for your first cruise. Consider this a new cruiser todo list. Of course, this is not a comprehensive list, and feel free to comment with other suggestions. First off and most importantly- check that passport expiration date well in advance of your cruise, preferably before you book. As you get closer to your cruise, you'll likely check-in online with your cruise line. Once you, or your travel agent have completed the check in process, you will likely want to Print your documents and pack them where they are easily accessible with your passport or other id. Keep your medication handy too because you'll be separated from your luggage for quite a while on embarkation day. Next on your checklist....Stop your mail. If you live in the U.S., This can be done online at Holdmail.usps.com. You can chose to have accumulated mail delivered on your return or held for pickup at your local post office. You'll also want to Call your Credit Card Companies before cruising so they don't shut off your cards if you try to use them while traveling abroad. These days this only takes minutes and can save you a ton of hassle. Don't forget to Call your cell phone provider to explore your options. Be sure your bags are well marked with your contact info in case you lose them - or in the unlikely event your cruise luggage tags are torn off during transit. Just before you travel, Attach your cruise luggage tags to your bags. Consider using clear plastic ones, like these. If you're flying to port, you may want to wait until after your flight to attach your tags so they don't get roughed up or torn off. Make some space on your cell phone for photos and videos. I use my phone a lot, and I’m constantly running out of space. Before I leave for a cruise I always move all my photos and videos off my phone and on to my computer. That way I’ll never miss a shot because I’m out of space. Lastly, consider making reservations before you cruise. These days, you can book spa visits, shore excursions, specialty-dining reservations and on some ships, entertainment up until a few days before you set sail.
