With some cruise lines adding ships into service and others cancelling more sailings, there has been both positive and negative updates over the past week. Don’t worry if you missed any of the cruise news, as we have all of the major headlines. Catch up with all the developments with this week’s cruise news update for September 20th. If you enjoy the video, please make sure to give it a BIG THUMBS UP! Carnival Corporation announced this week that it has officially sold two more ships. The Carnival Fascination and Carnival Inspiration will be sold and scrapped. Originally, the company indicated these ships would be going into long-term lay-up. Along with this cruise news, the Corporation also increased the number of ships it was selling to 18. This leaves three more ships that will be leaving one of the nine Carnival Corporation cruise lines. In addition, Carnival Cruise Line made further adjustments to its schedule, adding cancellations for four ships. These changes mean that the four upgraded Fantasy-class ships will not resume service until early 2021. The ships impacted include Carnival Magic, Carnival Paradise, Carnival Valor, and Carnival Spirit. Disney Cruise Line also announced this week that they will be canceling more cruises this fall. The line's four ships are now cancelled through early December. During the same meeting, the Disney CFO also acknowledged that the company’s 5th ship, the Disney Wish, has been further delayed. The ship was originally scheduled to sail in early 2022. In more cancellation cruise news updates, Royal Caribbean Group also made further cancellations to select sailings. Cruises in Australia and New Zealand on both Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises have been cancelled for the remainder of the year. These cancellations are in line with the Australian government’s recent decision to suspend cruising in the region. Lastly, in more encouraging cruise news, we learned about MSC Cruises' second ship to return to service. With 5 successful sailings of MSC Grandiosa, MSC announced the itineraries for the line’s second ship that will resume cruising in October. MSC Magnifica will offer 7 cruises visiting both the east and west Mediterranean. These “close proximity” cruises have been popular with guests. Of course, these sailings will also institute the company’s health and safety protocols, which includes rapid COVID-19 tests and the use of face masks in public areas.
