http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com So important to keep in mind that the Hurtigruten line consists of "working ships." The cruises are not NCL, Celebrity or Princess Cruises. Their ships ferry goods, mai,l cars and passengers between 34 different ports over a 7-day cruise. A lifeline for Norwegians during the long winter. And I lost track of how many other ports the Midnatsol stops at on the southbound voyage back to Bergen. Think...riding public transportation to another locale a few hours away for the Norwegians. The ships stop at ports 24 hours throughout the day and night. Sometimes, only a five-minute stop. While, in other ports, 3-4 hours. It was amazing to watch how quickly the Midnatsol pulled into port and then almost right back out again after dropping freight, cars and people. I really admired a large Chinese group who managed to set foot on land at all the ports throughout the voyage. No matter if it was 3:00 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. Just to say, "been there, done it."
