#travel #explore #cruise #cruiseship #ship #English #englishchannel #island #isles #guernsey #herm #channelislands #ambassador #uk I've just come back from a 'Gems of the English Channel' cruise on Ambassador Cruise Line's ship Ambience. On the itinerary were a few destinations (most in the English Channel) that I've always wanted to visit. The Isles of Scilly was one (this is a remote archipelago about 3 hours off the southwest coast of Cornwall. Guernsey in the Channel Islands was the other. Fowey in Cornwall and Honfleur in Normandy (Northern France) were the other two port stops. In the end I managed to visit TWO Scilly isles - the main island of St Mary's as well as the smaller island of Tresco, famed for its Tresco Abbey Gardens - a botanical paradise which is also home to cute red squirrels. And I also managed to visit TWO Channel Islands. Guernsey was one (where I visited the French author Victor Hugo's house - he spent 15 years in exile here) and the tiny island of Herm was the other. This video shows how to make the most of your days (be the first ones on the first tender boat and then you can see/do more) and some of the best things to do in port. In Fowey - trek the South West Coastal Path to Polridmouth Beach In St Mary's (Isles of Scilly) - walk the 1-hour walls round the Garrison as well as visit the Old Town Church where former British Prime Minister Harold Wilson is buried In Tresco - visit Tresco Abbey Gardens In Guernsey - visit Victor Hugo's House From Guernsey - visit the 1 mile long island of Herm - this is a stunning, remote paradise with gorgeous secluded beaches and coves. You need to take the Trident ferry to get there - check the timings to make sure you get back to your cruise ship in time and don't leave it too tight. In Honfleur - explore the stunning town and/or (depending on how long you're docked there) visit Claude Monet's house and gardens in Giverney.
