Is it safe to travel to the Middle East?

Is it safe to travel to the Middle East? **What would I do if I was nervous about visiting the Middle East? ** I’d do what I always do: research, check official advice, and look beyond the headlines. The Middle East is a vast and diverse region, home to ancient civilisations, world-class food, and warm hospitality. I spent some of my youngest years in Saudi Arabia, so there's a scent, a sound in the region that always makes me feel at home. But let's be realists, too. We're talking an area with complex histories and politics. If you're feeling unsure, that’s OK. Here’s where I’d start: 🧭 Check the official gov.uk travel advice (or your country’s equivalent) for up-to-date safety information, entry requirements and local laws. 📍Be specific. “The Middle East” includes everything from the UAE to Jordan, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Lebanon, Qatar and beyond. Each country (and sometimes region within) is very different. 📝 Read first-hand travel accounts, not just news reports. I’ve written extensively about destinations like Jordan, Oman and the UAE at www.insidethetravellab.com covering what it’s actually like to travel there. 🌍 Consider companies that offer local guides and responsible travel operators. They can help you connect meaningfully, safely and ethically with the place. ⚖️ Finally, trust your instincts. Travel should never feel forced.
