January! 4 Days in England 🇬🇧

We just stepped off the Queen Mary 2 (QM2) in Southampton, England and kicked off an unforgettable stretch of our UK adventure! After a quick taxi ride to the Leonardo Royal Hotel Southampton Grand Harbour, we met up with our friends from England and caught up over a long, relaxing breakfast (the kind where time flies and you forget to look at your phone for hours!). Then it was off to East Grinstead, West Sussex, where we stayed with our friend Bill for four days—and let’s just say… it wasn’t your average visit. During our stay, the area was hit with a major water outage that affected parts of Sussex and Kent, leaving thousands of residents without running water for days. Bottled water stations popped up, people were checking updates nonstop, and we got a real taste of what it’s like when a whole town suddenly has to adjust fast. It wasn’t the main focus of our trip, but it definitely became part of our story! Later that night we hopped on the train into London for a truly special evening and dinner at the prestigious Oxford & Cambridge Club. This historic private members’ club has long been known as a gathering place connected to alumni of Oxford University and the University of Cambridge, and stepping inside felt like walking into a piece of classic London tradition—elegant, timeless, and full of that old-world atmosphere you only get in places like this. After dinner, we made our way back to East Grinstead by train, passing through East Croydon, and soaked in that classic UK rail travel vibe. The next day we visited Oxted, Surrey, a charming town with a great High Street and a relaxed local feel. Oxted has roots going back centuries, and today it’s known for that classic English mix of history, community, and small-town character—perfect for a slower day, good food, and a little exploring. But one of the most unforgettable moments of this trip came when we spent time with the Ukrainian family Bill sponsored to help them escape the war in Ukraine. Between the laughs, stories, and a bowl of traditional Ukrainian soup, we were treated to an incredible performance when one of the family members—an opera singer back home—shared his talent right there at the kitchen table. Goosebumps. And of course, the nights didn’t end early… we spent evenings hanging out, playing music, and making memories we’ll never forget. To wrap up this chapter of the journey, we headed to London Gatwick Airport (LGW) and flew out to Madrid, Spain—and wow… it was one bumpy flight!
