Juneau Alaska Cruise Port Guide - Red Dog Saloon & More
Description from YouTube
Hey Cruisers, Welcome to Juneau, Alaska’s capital. There are no roads in or out of Juneau, but there are plenty of shops and fun right off the dock. In fact, there is plenty to explore on foot. Juneau has a rich gold rush history, and the Red Dog Saloon seems to harken back to those times…with swinging doors, sawdust floors, lively music, and crazy décor. It’s kind of a must stop in Juneau. If you want to get a little further away, hop on the Mt. Roberts tramway. The tram rises 1,800 feet from the cruise ship dock downtown, through the rain forest to the Mountain House. There’s a nature center, hiking trails, shopping and even food at the Timberline bar at the top. If you love hiking, glaciers and waterfalls, jump one of the many convenient bus tours to Mendenhall Glacier. Once you arrive, you can enjoy the view of Mendenhall glacier from the visitors center or venture out on foot, to get a closer look. But be sure to leave your snacks on the cruise ship- to keep curious bears at bay, the park doesn’t allow food of any kind. The scenic hike to spectacular Nugget falls starts at the visitors center, and ends at this breathtaking waterfall, with Mendenhall glacier in the background. We’re going to turn off the music and give you a little idea of what it sounds like to be at Nugget Falls.
