Creator's Key Takeaways

Ketchikan gave us history, beautiful scenery, great food, perfect weather, and plenty of fun along the way.

It's been a while since I've had fish this good. So, um, definitely come to Alaska Fish House.

They do have some shuttles here, but frankly, it'll take probably longer to wait for those than it will be to just walk it.

Creator's Tips & Advice

Walking to downtown Ketchikan may be faster than waiting for shuttles if you are not docked at a central berth.
The Salmon Walk is a free self-guided trail that is a great way to see the area.
Use the free shuttle buses for pickups and drop-offs around the city to save time/effort.

YouTube Video Description

Ketchikan cruise port guide: explore Ketchikan on your own with a one-day itinerary featuring the Ketchikan Lumberjack Show, Creek Street, Salmon Walk, Totem Heritage Center, and local seafood. Could we realistically fit all five main stops into one Ketchikan cruise day? Our ship, Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas, was docked at Berth 4, which meant a longer walk into downtown Ketchikan before our day could really begin. We made a quick stop at the famous Ketchikan welcome sign before heading to the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show. After the show, we walked to historic Creek Street, explored the wooden boardwalk and shops, visited Dolly’s House, and learned about the area’s colorful past. From Creek Street, we followed the free Salmon Walk along Ketchikan Creek. The route took us past Married Man’s Trail, the salmon ladder, the river, the skate park, and the fish hatchery before ending at the Totem Heritage Center. Admission to the Totem Heritage Center was $7 per person when we visited. Inside, we saw historic totem poles, Native artwork, carvings, clothing, canoes, and exhibits focused on the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian cultures. We then hopped aboard Ketchikan’s free city bus back downtown for a late lunch at the Alaska Fish House. After trying the fish, we visited the small indoor market next door, featuring Ketchikan Crab & Go, Fat Stan’s Sports Bar, and several souvenir shops. This hybrid Ketchikan cruise vlog and port guide shows our route, the walking involved, transportation options, costs, and what we were realistically able to fit into one cruise stop. Your berth location, port schedule, walking speed, and time spent at each attraction will all affect how much you can accomplish. If you’re planning an Alaska cruise, this video can help you decide whether to book a Ketchikan excursion or explore Ketchikan on your own. We also cover Ketchikan Alaska things to do, Creek Street Ketchikan, the Ketchikan Lumberjack Show, the Salmon Walk, the Totem Heritage Center, local seafood, and downtown Ketchikan. Would you spend your Ketchikan cruise day at the Lumberjack Show, exploring Creek Street, following the Salmon Walk, visiting the totems, or trying the local seafood? Let us know in the comments!
