Subscribe to the Eat Sleep Cruise YouTube Channel if you love to travel and cruise the world! https://www.youtube.com/c/EatSleepCruise1?sub_confirmation=1 This week, we had several surprising cruise updates from the major cruise lines. These new cruise headlines have us very optimistic that cruising will resume here in the U.S. before the end of the year. Catch up with all of the cruise updates in our Cruise News for October 11th. If you enjoy the video, please make sure to give it a BIG THUMBS UP! Royal Caribbean announced mid-week that its first ship to return to cruising will be Quantum of the Seas. This innovative vessel will begin offering 3 and 4 day cruises from Singapore on December 1st. This cruise news had us very excited, as it signaled that the cruise line was preparing to return to cruising. There will be a number of ship updates and increased health measures, including COVID-19 tests, face masks, and reduced capacity. In other encouraging cruise news, the leadership of the cruise lines met with the Vice President and Director of the CDC late last week. According to reports, the cruise officials were able to present their plans for a safe resumption of cruising in the United States. Still, there has not been any changes, yet, to the proposed No Sail order that extends until the end of the month. Some insiders have indicated that the cruise lines have begun contacting crew in anticipation that they will be allowed to cruise in November. Carnival Corporation CEO, Arnold Donald, told investors last week that he was optimistic cruising would resume in U.S. by the end of the year. He suggested that the individual brands in Carnival’s group would be able to attract previous customers and would meet demand as less ships would be sailing at one time. Also on the call, the Corporation's CFO detailed that a cruise ship’s break-even point was between 30-50% capacity, depending on the class ship. At the same time, Carnival Cruise Line was making further cruise news for its next Excel-class ship, Carnival Celebration. Bookings for this innovative vessel went on sail last week. Carnival Celebration will begin sailing in November 2022, with a 14-day transatlantic cruise from Southampton, England. Following the trip, the ship will offer Caribbean cruises from its homeport of Miami, FL. In some disappointing news though, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line did confirm that they would be canceling all cruises through the end of November. While this cruise update is depressing, it most likely means that the cruise lines could offer different ships and itineraries if the government allows them to sail next month. Norwegian Cruise Line did make further cancellations on three ships, postponing their return to cruising until 2021, presumably due ongoing restrictions on international travel for Americans. In other cruise ship news, the recently updated Windstar Star Breeze completed sea trials this past week. The ship is scheduled to begin cruising in January 2021 with 7-night Caribbean cruises from San Juan, PR. Holland America’s newest ship, MS Rotterdam, touched water for the first time. This major cruise ship milestone has the vessel one step closer to its maiden voyage, currently slated for late 2021. In the last bit of cruise news, Costa Cruises' third ship sets sail. The 180,000 gross ton Costa Smeralda will offer 7-night cruises visiting several Italian ports. Like its sister ships currently cruising in the country, there are a number of health and safety protocols in place. These include physical distancing, face masks, as well as shore excursion restrictions at each locale.
