Following the postponement of the planned Surrey Border & Camberley Railway event, the Eastleigh Lakeside Railway needed a new theme for its 'END of SEASON GALA' on the weekend of Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th September 2024. It was therefore decided to very simply say "Let's Play Trains!" So we did! A total of twelve different locomotives (ten Steam, one Petrol and one Electric) came out on a number of service trains throughout the two-day event which featured two special visitors in the form of L&MR 0-4-2 No.57 "Lion" and SMR 'Atlantic' 4-4-2 No.751 "John H. Gretton", the latter of which was making its first visit away from Stapleford Miniature Railway for around 40 years. The big highlight though was the return of SBCR 1000-class 'Bullock' 4-6-2 No.1003 "Western Queen" following extensive restoration (see previous video) entering service on the Saturday. The full Locomotive line-up was as follows... - L&MR 0-4-2 No.57 "Lion" (from Spencer Steam Services & South Downs Light Railway) - SMR 'Atlantic' 4-4-2 No.751 "John H. Gretton" (from the Stapleford Miniature Railway) - SBCR 1000-class 'Bullock' 4-6-2 No.1003 "Western Queen" (returning to service following restoration) - GCR Class 8 'Fish' 4-6-0 No.181 (from the Simkins family) - GCR 8K-class 2-8-0 No.102 (from the Simkins family) - SR rebuilt 'Merchant Navy'-class 4-6-2 No.35004 "Cunard White Star" (back in service following repairs) - ELR 'Atlantic' 4-4-2 No.4789 "William Baker" (Saturday only) - 'Romulus' 0-4-0 "Sanjo" (Saturday only) - Rio Grande 2-6-0 No.8 "David Curwen" (Sunday only) - L&BR 'Manning-Wardle' 2-6-2T No.761 "Taw" (Sunday only) - RVM 6w P-H No.D2000 "Thunderbolt" (causing all sorts of chaos) - RVM B-E Bo-Bo No.92 "Florence" (making a rare outing on Passenger Service) Sequences in this video are as follows... - The 'LAKES EXPRESS' with 181 & 35004 "Cunard White Star" - 35004 "Cunard White Star" - 1003 "Western Queen" - 102 - 181 - 751 "John H.
