Mackinac Island is like no other place! It is an island only accessible by ferry… and NO cars are allowed!! Bikes are the main mode of transportation… or horses. Yes, horses! The taxis on the island are horse drawn carriages, and so is the trash pickup. This place is like stepping back 100+ years to a simpler time. Main Street is filled with shops and restaurants but the rest of the island is spread out. There is an 8 mile hwy around the edge which is the only hwy in America for bike only traffic. And don’t miss the Grand Hotel, it is spectacular! It boasts the longest front porch in the USA! It is lined with rocking chairs that have a magnificent view of Lake Huron. Oh, and don’t forget to get some fudge! Did you know that fudge is the most consumed food on the island?
