We really enjoyed our day in Manta, Ecuador — far more than we expected. We wandered off the cruise ship without a plan and ended up at Pata Salada, a beautiful upscale seaside restaurant with stunning views, elegant Ecuadorian seafood, and one of those meals that sparks memories and conversation. Over lunch at Pata Salada, we reminisced about a Thanksgiving “pirate meal” at home, inspired by a trip years ago to Belize. It was fascinating how flavors, atmosphere, and even the pelicans diving for their dinner in Manta brought us right back to Belize — a place where we also enjoyed wonderful seafood, beach days, and unforgettable pelican encounters. What really surprised us was Manta itself. It’s a modern city — larger, cleaner, and more developed than we ever imagined, with a beachfront condo district that made us say, “People really live well here.” But it also has a laid-back local beach vibe. We strolled the waterfront, admired the skyline, and realized this isn’t just a cruise stop — it’s a place you could actually live, vacation, and savor. This port is ideal for simply hanging out, walking, eating, and letting the day unfold, whether you’re visiting for a few hours from the ship or considering a longer stay.
