Medical Evacuation At Sea | Raw Footage | Quantum of the Seas | Royal Caribbean | May 2022

On May 7, 2022 at approximately 1:50pm local time, the Captain of Royal Caribbean's Quantum of the Seas came on the intercom to inform guests that a guest had fallen ill and would need to be medically evacuated off the ship via helicopter in 30 minutes. Quantum of the Seas was sailing south off of the west coast of Vancouver Island at this time. Exactly 30 minutes later at 2:20pm local time, Quantum of the Seas came to a complete stop in the middle of the ocean and a Canadian AgustaWestland CH-149 Cormorant helicopter arrived to our location. The helicopter began its descent towards the front of the ship since it could not land as it was a "Winch Only" operation and began its procedure to MedEvac the guest off of the ship. The helicopter then circled the ship for 15 to 20 minutes leaving guests wondering what may be going on. Then the helicopter came back to the front of the ship, began its descent, and after another 20 to 25 minutes, picked up the guest and headed back to Vancouver Island at 3:05pm local time to take the guest to the nearest hospital. Guest Update -- I am happy to report that the guest who was medically evacuated off the Quantum of the Seas on May 7th was back on the ship on May 8th while we were docked in Victoria, BC. The guest was in good spirits and everyone was happy to see the guest back onboard. Thanks to "DJ afroASH" on YouTube and Instagram for sharing 1-minute of footage of the helicopter at the very front of the ship through her forward-facing Oceanview room as all guest access to the helicopter landing/flying area was closed, including the Solarium and jogging track.
