YouTube Video Description

Just an hour outside Barcelona is the best day trip you can take in the region – a visit to Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey or Montserrat Monastery. The drive is beautiful and the scenery at the monastery is breathtakingly stunning. We visited as part of a cruise excursion from the port of Barcelona. Nestled into sharp mountain peaks that make you feel like you are almost in the clouds, the monastery is known for the Virgin of Monserrat or the Little Black Madonna, which brings pilgrims and tourists from across the world. She is the patron saint of Catalonia. Saint Michael’s Cross, walkable from the monastery, towers directly above the Holy Cave Church, built between 1696 and 1705. Traditionally the hiding place for the Virgin of Montserrat, Legend has it in 880 two shepherds had a vision that resulted in finding the icon of the Virgin Mary. Although it’s a holy place, there is a lot to do at Monserrat Monastery from cable car and funicular rides and hiking paths to restaurants and shops. There is accommodation at the monastery and throughout the year there are festivals, creating a party atmosphere. This place is as culturally important as it is religiously. When we were there, people were playing music and making human towers. The atmosphere was fantastic. And I loved the gift shops. There was no filming allowed inside the church. Before leaving, we had to stop by the overlook. The views are incredible. The drive back down towards Barcelona is not for the faint hearted! The views are spectacular and the road is windy. This was a fabulous way to spend a day just outside Barcelona. #montserrat #barcelona #daytrip #daytripideas #daytripfrombarcelona #spaintravel #spain #travel #travelvlog #traveling #cruise #cruiseexcursion Music from YouTube Audio Chapters 00:00 Introduction 00:35 Montserrat Information 00:45 Stunning Scenery Around Montserrat 01:25 Saint Michael's Cross & Holy Cave Church 01:48 Things To Do At Montserrat 02:20 Festival 02:36 Entrance and Facade 04:12 Views 05:44 Overlook 06:01 Drive Back on Windy Road 08:02 Another Video You Might Like
