The Bali and Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF) 2024, held in the picturesque paradise of Bali, is a pivotal event in Indonesia's tourism calendar. Celebrating its 10th year, BBTF has established itself as Indonesia's premier international travel fair, dedicated to showcasing the country's rich cultural tapestry and natural splendor to a global audience. This year, Travel and Tour World had the honor of sitting down with Ni Made Ayu Marthini, the Deputy Minister of Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia. Known for her innovative strategies and leadership, Made shared valuable insights into the nation's tourism triumphs and future aspirations. Celebrating Milestones: 1.07 Million Tourists in April 2024 Ni Made Ayu Marthini enthusiastically shared Indonesia's recent success of welcoming 1.07 million tourists in April 2024, marking a significant milestone in the country's recovery and growth post-pandemic. "Indonesia is not just bouncing back; we're surpassing our pre-pandemic levels," Made remarked. This achievement underscores the resilience of Indonesia's tourism sector, which has navigated through the challenges posed by the global pandemic. "Events like the Bali and Beyond Travel Fair play a crucial role in driving this growth," she added, emphasizing the importance of such platforms in boosting tourism. Promoting East Java: A Cultural and Natural Hub When asked about the growing popularity of East Java, Made highlighted the region's diverse attractions and strategic promotional efforts. "Beyond Bali, East Java stands as a jewel in our tourism crown," she stated. East Java offers a myriad of experiences, from its cultural heritage to its natural wonders. The Ministry has been actively promoting this region as part of the "Five Super Priority Destinations" initiative, aiming to showcase Indonesia's vast richness beyond the well-known Bali. The Five Super Priority Destinations: Showcasing Indonesia's Diversity Made elaborated on the "Five Super Priority Destinations" - a strategic initiative to diversify and expand Indonesia's tourism landscape. These destinations include Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Borobudur Temple in Central Java, Mandalika in Lombok, Labuan Bajo in Flores, and Likupang in North Sulawesi. Lake Toba: The largest volcanic lake in the world, surrounded by lush greenery, offers a serene escape. "Lake Toba is a destination where culture and nature intertwine beautifully," Made described. The region is now a focal point for investment and development to boost tourism. Borobudur Temple: This UNESCO World Heritage site, the largest Buddhist temple globally, is not just a spiritual haven but also a cultural treasure. "We've been creating various activities around Borobudur to attract spiritual tourism," Made explained, noting the temple's proximity to the culturally rich city of Yogyakarta. Mandalika: Known for its stunning beaches and the newly developed MotoGP circuit, Mandalika is being positioned as a premier sports tourism destination. "The annual MotoGP event attracts enthusiasts from around the world," Made highlighted, drawing attention to the island's appeal. Labuan Bajo: Famous for its pristine coral reefs and the Komodo dragons, this area is becoming a hotspot for sustainable and regenerative tourism. "Labuan Bajo offers a unique experience with its underwater beauty and the only living prehistoric creatures," Made pointed out. Likupang: Located in North Sulawesi, Likupang is being developed as an ecotourism destination. "We're promoting Likupang for its unspoiled nature and vibrant marine life," she noted.
