Royal Caribbean has owned CocoCay, a resort destination on Littler Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas, for years, but in 2019 they gave it a complete reboot. Originally leased by Admiral cruises in 1985 the island became a part of the Royal Caribbean family when the line was acquired in 1988 and the destination was renamed to Coco Cay. Designed to be a secluded island the destination featured a few small buildings to serve food and remained primarily desolate giving it a natural feel. Guests would tender to the island from their ship anchored off shore. This setup often resulted in missed stops and upset guests. In March of 2018 Royal Caribbean announced an unprecedented project as they would invest roughly $250 million dollars into redeveloping CocoCay into the first of the new Perfect Day collection destinations. This new project would completely redevelop the island into a true destination complete with its own pier allowing guests to walk right onto the island for the first time. Featuring the original beaches now called Chill Island along with the addition of the largest fresh water pool in the Caribbean, Oasis Lagoon, guests have a variety of options to make the day what they want it to be. Upgraded dining accommodations take the islands food venues to a level beyond any other cruise destination. Featuring two large beachside BBQ buffets, Chill Grill and Skipper's Grill, these upgraded dining offerings take the traditional beach BBQ to a new level with expanded offerings including Mexican food. In addition two quick service venues names, Snack Shack, offer high end burgers, chicken sandwiches, mozzarella sticks, funnel cake, and more. Beyond the upgrades to the traditional private island offerings they added a new level of offerings with Up, Up, and Away which takes guests 450 feet in the air for the highest vantage point in the Bahamas on a helium balloon ride. They also added a new water park called Thrill Water Park. This premium area of the island features four distinct areas. At the back side you'll find the largest wave pool in the caribbean. The center of the park features the Adventure Pool, a rectangular pool filled with water challenges. The top of the park is towered over by Splash Summit, a waterslide structure featuring a trio of slides. Sling Shot allows up to 4 guests to ride on a family tube down a winding slide before falling entering a half pipe for a zero-g moment. Twister allows guests to ride down closed tube on single person inter tubes. Splash Speedway allows 4 guests to race headfirst down a 40 foot tall slide. The icon of the entire island and water park sits right at the entrance, Daredevil's Tower. This large structure of steel can be seen from every part of the island and on the horizon long before reaching the pier. The large structure features 5 unique types of slides on three different levels. The lowest level features Manta Raycers, a pair of gentle open flume racing slides, Green Mamba, a 50 foot tall closed winding tube slide, and Screeching Serpent, a 50 foot tall vertical drop slide. The second level features a pair of drop slides that send people down a 75 foot high slide from a vertical position. The top level features the biggest challenge of the entire water park as Daredevil's Peak stands 135 feet in the air making it the tallest waterslide in North America, a true thrill for any guest willing to take the challenge. This tour was filmed on October 16th, 2019 while both the Empress of the Seas and Navigator of the Seas were docked. This accounts for roughly 5,500 passengers on the property.
