This is the 1st Port of Call on our TRANSATLANTIC CRUISE aboard the Sky Princess. The ship docks at Portland, a tied island along the Southwestern coast of England. There are quite a few things to do on Portland including Nothe Fort, Church Ope Cove, Portland Museum, Portland Marina, Portland Castle, Castletown D-Day Center, the Lighthouse and Tout Quarry Sculpture Park . We took the complimentary bus that Princess provided from Portland (10-15 minute drive) that dropped us off at the 17th Century charming Harbor of Weymouth full of cottages, pubs, restaurants, shops, a “lifting road” bridge, fishing fleets, fish market and charter boats. We walk across the bridge along the pedestrian friendly streets and make our way to the beach that makes this seaside resort a tourist haven! Portland and Weymouth was a major departure port for the Normandy landing during World War 2. We explore the Esplanade along the beach and admire the monuments dedicated to World War II.
