All Princess Ships now have it but What is it? What benefits will you get? All about the new Medallion features that Princess has launched on all of its ships. Princess Medallion class and Ocean Ready are the new phrases and new systems that you will be hearing about. Princess first introduced a couple of years ago a medallion which was carried or worn by the traveller. This device replaced the old key cards to open your stateroom doors, enter and exit the ship and to pay for your onboard expenses. The medallion was sure handy. I loved the medallion feature on my last Princess sailing as I could simply walk up to my cabin door and the locking device would recognize my Medallion device and unlock the door just as I was getting ready to open it. No more fumbling for a card or wearing one on a lanyard and opening your cabin door any longer. But, that was a few years ago and Princess has taken the technology base to a whole new level. Perhaps the best new feature is the simplified safety training. Anyone who has sailed on a cruise ship knows about the dreaded lifeboat muster station drill which has to be done. We have had muster stations in the past in show lounges and we have had to stand in a row on outside decks with our life jackets on. With the new Medallion Class, traditional muster drills are a thing of the past. Instead get the safety info through a video you can watch once on board in your stateroom – or on your device – any time before the ship departs on embarkation day. You will still need to visit your muster station during select hours prior to your sailing and check in your medallion with a crew member – this way, you'll know exactly where to go in case of an emergency. But, you will not be stuck there waiting while your valuable vacation time ticks away.
