We take you through everything you need to know about visiting this vibrant cruise port, offering tips, highlights, and details about our all-day excursion. Whether you’re planning a visit or just curious about what this Caribbean gem has to offer, we’ve got you covered. Roatán features two main cruise ports: Mahogany Bay, used by Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Regent Seven Seas, and Oceania, and Coxen Hole, where we docked. Coxen Hole’s port complex makes it easy to step right off the ship and into an array of shops, restaurants, and attractions. The complex features locally made products such as hand-rolled cigars, Honduran rum, artisan chocolate, Central American coffee, jewelry, and unique crafts. It’s also home to pools, massage services, and dining spots like Taco Lover, serving up delicious Mexican cuisine. The port is relatively new, continually expanding, and ready to welcome returning visitors with something fresh to discover. Most visitors join an excursion on shore, and we’re no exception. Popular tours include zip lining, glass-bottom boats, beach clubs, and wildlife encounters. We booked the Zip N Dip tour with Victor Bodden Tours for $154.70 per person, which included zip lining, meeting sloths and monkeys, and relaxing at a beach club. The adventure started with a scenic ride through Roatán’s lush landscape, passing homes and local businesses that gave us a glimpse of island life. Our zip line adventure took place within an animal sanctuary, offering 11 lines up to 300 feet high and over 1,000 feet long. It was our first time zip lining, and the expert guides made it easy and fun. Afterward, we explored the animal sanctuary, beginning with sloths, which are as adorable and calm as you’d imagine. Holding one was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Next, we met playful monkeys that bounced around and even perched on our shoulders, followed by colorful macaws, which added vibrant energy to the visit. We also saw the Roatán Island agouti, a native rodent with an important role in the island’s ecosystem. The day concluded with relaxation at a beach club, where we lounged, enjoyed the views, and explored the nearby beach. Food and drinks weren’t included in our package, but they were affordable and readily available. We wrapped up by heading back to Coxen Hole for last-minute souvenir shopping before reboarding the ship. It was an incredible day full of adventure, wildlife, and relaxation, highlighting the best of what Roatán has to offer.
