We reserved a car rental months in advance. We knew we were going to do a number of self guided tours while in port. Akaka Falls State Park was one of a few stops we made. It's definately worth seeing for $5 per person. In the video I mentioned its a trail to get to the big falls it's more like a sidewalk with railings and lots of steps. It's an enjoyable walk. Akaka Falls State Park, located along the northeastern Hilo Coast about 11 miles north of Hilo at the end of Akaka Falls Road (Hwy. 220), about 3.6 miles SW of Honomลซ. In the park you can see two gorgeous waterfalls Akaka Falls (442 feet) and Kahuna Falls (100 feet) on a short hike. The pleasant 0.4-mile uphill hike will take you through a lush rainforest filled with wild orchids, bamboo groves and draping ferns. As you follow the paved footpath, you'll first see 100-foot Kahuna Falls. Continue to follow the loop around the bend, and you'll discover towering Akaka Falls which plummets 442-feet into a stream-eroded gorge. Beautiful สปAkaka Falls is perhaps the island of Hawaiสปi's most famous waterfall. Easily accessible, this hike takes less than an hour.
