About our Bacon Score methodologyYouTube Video Descriptionβ
http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com The second excursion was a zodiac cruise through waters along the 16 kilometer/9.3 mile long 14th of July Glacier, named after what else but Bastille Day in France. Steep mountains provide an ideal habitat for thousands of Kittiwakes, breeding Brunnich's Guillemots (not that I ever learned to tell one from another) and all the guano at the bottom (forget niceties, just call it bird shit) enriches the tundra and provides rich vegetation for animals. Glaciaologist Colin was our zodiac driver and went into in-depth explanations; five different moraines merge into this one glacier and what causes the intense blue ice. Short answer is - ice only appears blue when sufficiently consolidated that bubbles do not interfere with the passage of light. Umm, I sort of understand, maybe... I did manage to spot two Puffins but our cruise was suddenly aborted when passengers were ordered to return to ship. Watch the already uploaded video "Women Dies in Zodiac Accident" to see why...
