One of my very favorite places in Alaska is the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. It's located in the Portage Valley near the turn toward Whittier. It's about an hour's drive from Anchorage. There are lots of animals available for viewing year-round, and they have special experiences available for an additional cost as well. I really appreciate the conservation work that is done by this facility. They have even restored a wild population of wood bison for the first time in over 100 years!
