'Steam Dreams' usually work two excursions to Weymouth during the year. The first being on the 9th July to celebrate the anniversary of the end of steam on the Southern; the other is in August on the day of the Weymouth Carnival. The 2010 excursion was on Wednesday 18th August and was the second of two trains to run from London to Weymouth. The other being the 'Railway Touring Company's 'Dorset Coast Express' which had passed through Totton an hour earlier behind SR N15-class 'King Arthur' 4-6-0 No.30777 "Sir Lamiel". Unfortunately, the 'Cathedral's Express' ended up being hauled from London to Weymouth by WCRC Class 37 No.37706. Originally to run behind BR 'Britannia'-class 4-6-2 No.70013 "Oliver Cromwell", the loco chosen to replace it was Carnforth's newly-overhauled LMSR 'Black 5'-class 4-6-0 No.44932. But this had failed at the last minute, so the Class 37 had to take over. Later that day, "Sir Lamiel" worked a leg of the railtour from Weymouth to Yeovil before the diesel took the train back to London.
