The fourth run of the Railway Touring Company's 'Dorset Coast Express' excursions took place on Wednesday 28th August 2013. This run saw another locomotive debut on these trains with LMSR 'Black 5'-class 4-6-0 No.45231 "The Sherwood Forester" taking charge, having come down from Carnforth the day before to help the South's steam shortage - SR rebuilt 'West Country'-class 4-6-2 No.34046 "Braunton" being at Bristol, 'Battle of Britain'-class 4-6-2 No.34067 "Tangmere" under repair at Carnforth and BR 'Britannia'-class 4-6-2 No.70013 "Oliver Cromwell" currently visiting the North Norfolk Railway. In this video, we see 45231 "The Sherwood Forester" working the outward run from London Victoria to Weymouth through Totton, whistling and working hard. Later we move to Redbridge for the return run - first half leg being worked by WCRC Class 47 'Brush' Co-Co No.47237 from Weymouth to Southampton Central and then 45231 working the final leg back to London Waterloo via Romsey and Andover. Good to meet-up with fellow YouTubers Steve (hoppy82), Thomas (BristolCastle), Kristian (letmadnessbegin) and James (NWSNoaaChaser) at Redbridge.
