Over 60 royal tombs carved deep into the desert, hidden away from tomb raiders and time. Ish. Most tombs have now been raided and it's one of the busiest places in the country. This was the VIP cemetery of the pharaohs: Thutmose, Ramesses, and of course, Tutankhamun. The layout is nothing like the pyramids; this was stealth burial, secretive by design. Inside, the tombs still blaze with colours of lapis, ochre, and gold, with labyrinthine corridors telling stories of gods, journeys, and life after death. Here’s what no one tells you: – Not all tombs are open every day. Rotation protects the artwork, so check ahead. – Tutankhamun’s tomb is tiny but powerful.
