We Chose the Cheapest Cruise Excursion - Here's What We Found

Today the Spectacular New, Celebrity Xcel cruise ship is docked in sunny, tropical Taino Bay, Puerto Plata! This is the ideal way to visit the Dominican Republic, and experience it's beauty, history, culture, and food. There's so much to see, and so little time, but this tour checks all the boxes... and it's a bargain! Our tour is Destination Highlights and Flavors of Puerto Plata. We began is the historical center of town, Independence Plaza. While there, we toured Cathedral of St. Philip the Apostle (Catedral de San Felipe Apóstol). Then sampled rum and the local drink, mamajuana. We took a stroll down Pink Street (Paseo de Dona Blanca), and Umbrella Street. On the way to our cigar tasting at La Aurora Cigar Factory, we passed Dominican Wallmart, and the Amber Museum. We learned how to roll cigars and smoked a few, then sampled more mamajuana and coffee. Then it was time to learn how chocolate is made, and sample some at Del Oro Chocolate Factory before our complimentary lunch of native Dominican ethnic dishes. We made a quick stop at Fortaleza De San Felipe to take it some amazing views of the coastline, our ship (Celebrity Xcel) docked at Taino Bay Cruise Port, and Anfiteatro La Puntilla (amphitheater). Then it was time for a full-scale rum tasting at Macorix House of Rum. Back onboard Xcel, we dined at Normandie, took in the Rebel (Classic Rock Tenors) show in the Theater, 254 West in the Club, then closed out our fantastic day in the Grand Plaza for a Latin music dj.
