How the weight of the Anchor and diameter of the Chain are selected? Calculation & use of Equipment Number An equipment number (EN) is a dimensionless parameter used to calculate the number and size of anchors, chain cables, and mooring and towing lines for a new ship. The EN is calculated using a standard equation that takes into account the area above and below the water surface. These requirements are based on maximum current of 8 [km/hr], wind speed of 25 [m/sec], water depth of 5-7 [m] and good holding ground conditions. Where environmental conditions are more onerous, special consideration will be required. The EN may have to be calculated (please see MSC.1/Circ.1175/Rev.1).
