On August 19, 2022, I flew first class on Alaska Airlines from Los Angeles (LAX) to San Francisco (SFO). Here is the trip report. I enjoy flying Alaska, it is one of my favorite airlines. Their first class pricing on short trips makes it worth it to me to fly this way. The flight was scheduled to take off at 4:20 pm, but since I was coming in from a cruise, and had purchased their airport transfer from the cruise terminal to LAX, it got me there at about 9am. This meant that I had to hang out with my bags in the baggage claim level until 4 hours before my flight, when Alaska could take my bags off my hands. Luckily, there is a Starbucks on that level and some seats, and I managed to make the most of my time there. Once I did the bag drop with Alaska and went through security, I sought out the Alaska Airlines lounge, conveniently located near my gate. I relaxed in the lounge (admission was my first class ticket) where they had food and drink and even a full bar available. It passed the time much more comfortably than waiting at the gate would have. The airline texted me an update that the flight was delayed until 5:09 pm, and then sent notice of a gate change as well. I made my way to what I thought was the right gate (LAX has a 65a, b and cโ€”turns out I was waiting in 65a when my flight was at 65c), until I got a text from Alaska that my flight was boarding. I realized my error and dashed over to the correct gate to board in the middle of the main boarding groups. The overhead bin space was already full in first, but the stew took my small roller and put it in the closet at the front. I got settled in, and the rest of the flight was pleasant. They served a round of drinks and snacks, and since it was such a short flight, that was the extent to the service.
