Hello Travelers, In July of 2023, I did my first Alaska cruise tour with Princess cruises. If you haven’t done one of these before, it is a bit different than just going on a cruise. I chose to do the land portion of the tour first, as I had found in my research that people recommended that you get that part over with first before boarding the ship. I second that advice, having done this trip now—it is better to do the land portion first, because you have the logistics with going to a new hotel each evening and handling the bags. Once you finish the land tour, you will really appreciate being able to unpack once on the ship and then just enjoy yourself. So I flew into Anchorage where my tour started a day early and stayed in a budget hotel, because the first hotel that Princess puts us up at was more expensive than I wanted to pay. So I hunted for a hotel that was close to the airport, and had a shuttle. That way I could just get an airport transfer from Princess to take me to the cruise tour hotel (Hotel Captain Cook) in the morning. I arrived at the hotel fairly late on July 4th, and even though the sun was up very late at night, there were fireworks going off. I guess when it doesn’t get dark until after midnight, you make do. The hotel was pretty basic, but the room was a surprise—and not a good one. The room has to be the most poorly lit hotel room I’ve ever seen. You can see in the video that there are just two little can lights (actually there were three but one was not working), and that was it—no lamps, nothing. There was a couch with a coffee table, and a little sink and microwave area as well. It was all very basic, and would have been fine for my needs…except the thermostat wasn’t working. The window to the room was wide open when I arrived and the room was cold. It never really warmed up, and I froze. I ended up piling on layers of clothes and huddling under the covers (no extra blankets in the room) to try and stay warm enough to sleep. The next day, there was a breakfast of sorts in the lobby—very basic cereal and some pastries and juice/coffee. I was able to grab a bagel and some cream cheese to at least get me going. You need to sign up for the shuttle, which they let me know when I checked in, so I did. So bright and early, I was there for my shuttle ride. They took me to the airport, which was really close by, and I was able to get on with my day. Please like this video and subscribe to my channel to make sure you don’t miss future content. I have more videos for this cruise, as well as future cruises booked through the rest of this year and beyond. Thanks for watching!
