I chose to do the land portion of the tour first, as I had found in my research that people recommended that you get that part over with first before boarding the ship

Hello Travelers, In July of 2023, I did my first Alaska cruise tour with Princess cruises. If you haven’t done one of these before, it is a bit different than just going on a cruise. I chose to do the land portion of the tour first, as I had found in my research that people recommended that you get that part over with first before boarding the ship. I second that advice, having done this trip now—it is better to do the land portion first, because you have the logistics with going to a new hotel each evening and handling the bags. Once you finish the land tour, you will really appreciate being able to unpack once on the ship and then just enjoy yourself. I was in the Baymont Inn & Suites for the first night of my travel. It was a very cold room, since I arrived after midnight, and the window was wide open with the AC blasting at 50 degrees! It never warmed up much, and I woke up cold several times during the night despite piling on the clothes and even grabbing some towels from the bathroom to try and keep warm. The hotel offered a free shuttle (you sign up when you check in) to the airport, and my time slot was for 8:40 am. I arrived at the airport and found where to check in for the cruise tour, and they put me into a cab to the Captain Cook Hotel. Once there, I found the Princess Cruise Tour checkin desk and while the room keys don’t arrive until around 11am (and the rooms aren’t ready until 4pm for check in), the lady was kind enough to go over my welcome packet. I had a tour scheduled so I wanted to get the details of when it would be and where to meet. I stored my luggage and hung around the lobby of the hotel for a while reading. Then I went in search of lunch, and found the big restaurant had closed—apparently it only serves breakfast. There was a coffee place that had pastries much like a Starbucks, and I got a little something to eat there—as well as filling my thermos full of lovely coffee to take on my excursion. That came in handy on the bus ride, I can tell you. The excursion deserves its own video, so I focus mainly on the logistics of how a cruise tour is handled, with the luggage especially. Hopefully if you are going on one of these cruise tours, this will give you a good idea what to expect when you start at the first hotel. The Captain Cook Hotel was very nice as well. There is a room tour video that is alw Please like this video and subscribe to my channel to make sure you don’t miss future content. I have more videos for this cruise, as well as future cruises booked through the rest of this year and beyond. Thanks for watching!
