Hello Travelers, I am traveling solo on the brand new Discovery Princess cruise ship out of Los Angeles. This is her inaugural sailing, the first with paying passengers. She is a gorgeous ship, and I really enjoyed being able to sail on her. This video is from day 5 of our journey, and we stop at Puerto Vallarta. I did something a bit different in this port. I have wanted to visit the Riu Palace Pacifico hotel and resort to see what it is like. The pictures I had seen looked very nice, and I was able to book the facility through resortforaday.com. If you haven’t used them, they charge a small fee for the day pass, and the balance is due at the hotel when you arrive. This left the issue of getting to and from the resort, since transportation is not included. So while I could have just taken a taxi out to the resort, I would then have had to make my way back to the port when I was done, and I wanted something I could schedule. One of the Facebook groups I belong to recommended Vallarta Vanamos (http://vallartavamonos.com/) as reliable transport for just this kind of thing. They do a lot of airport transportation and can handle groups in addition to just singles or couples. I traded messages with them and we were able to agree on the service. Once I left the port building, I walked to the Main Street there and waited on the corner. My driver called me to let me know what vehicle he was in, and in a few minutes, he picked me up. He had extensive experience in the travel and transportation business in the area, and was able to take me on a quick tour of the resorts in the area and gave me some recommendations for future visits. He had his business partner come along when they picked me up for the return trip, and they were both so knowledgeable and helpful. I will definitely be using them again when I am in this port. The Riu Palace Pacifico is a really lovely property. The lobby is elegant and quiet. There are several restaurants and bars. The property is basically a U shaped building with the buffet restaurants at each end of the U. I was able to catch the tail end of the breakfast service, and then the afternoon lunch service before I went back to the ship. There are several speciality restaurants as well, which I believe are an uncharge much like speciality dining is on the ship. Drinks are all included in the day pass, however, and eating at both of the buffets was also included. There are two pools—one inside of the other. The main pool is quite large, and there is a swim up bar. The infinity edge pool actually sits inside the main pool and is elevated. They had water aerobics when I was there, and it was very popular. This was a nice way to spend the day in port. I just made certain I scheduled my return ride in plenty of time to make the ship’s departure. Dinner back on board was at Bistro Sur La Mer.
