Hello Travelers, I am traveling solo on the brand new Discovery Princess cruise ship out of Los Angeles. This is her inaugural sailing, the first with paying passengers. She is a gorgeous ship, and I really enjoyed being able to sail on her. This video covers the embarkation process and the first night of the cruise. I purchased airport transfers both to and back from the ship, so Princess met me at baggage claim, where I collected my suitcases. The process was handled differently from my prior cruise through LAX, in that there was a luggage team that picked up the luggage at the airport and brought it to the ship—we didn’t see our bags when we got off the bus at the cruise terminal at all. The Princess representative at the airport directed us to go and wait by Pillar 6H. She would wait by all of our bags until the luggage team came to get them, at which point she would meet us at that same pillar. That went well, and once she joined us, the bus was not long in coming. Off to the cruise port we all went. The ship departed from Berth 50, but we first went to Berth 93 to do our registration and check in with the port. Once we cleared all the documentation hurdles (proof of vaccination, passport and current negative covid test), we were directed up the escalator as though we were boarding a ship. But there was no ship, so we continued as though we had just gotten off a ship, and went through what would usually be Customs, and back down the escalator. There was a line there to get on the busses. After waiting until it was my turn, I was directed to a small shuttle bus; and the driver took my carryon bag and directed me to get on the bus. However, two people had also been directed and they took the last two seats. So I had to get my carryon back and go to the next bus. It eventually worked out, but it was a hassle. The trip to Berth 50 where the Discovery was took around 5-10 minutes. It was certainly not close enough to have people just walk it, so the busses were needed. Once there, we went through Security screening and onto the ship! Please like this video and subscribe to my channel to make sure you don’t miss future content. I have more videos for this cruise, as well as future cruises booked through the rest of this year and beyond. Thanks for watching!
