On August 21, 2021 I set sail on the Carnival Panorama for the restart of the west coast Mexico cruises. This is day 5 of the cruise, and our second port day. In Mazatlan, I took a shore excursion (booked through the cruise line) called All Inclusive Beach Resort Getaway, which took us to the El Cid Marina Beach Club. It took about half an hour by bus to get to the resort, and we had about four hours there. Mazatltanโs port is very industrial, and not somewhere you can just get off the ship and walk to town. Outside of the port is a pretty sketchy area, so Iโd really advise booking an excursion here. We traveled by air conditioned bus to the resort, where they greeted us with a non-alcoholic drink. We were given the option of lounging on the beach at the initial beach club, where there were loungers and umbrellas all set up close to the beach. We could also go to the two pools via water taxi across a small channel. The beach had a sharp dropoff, and the pools sounded more inviting to me. I took the water taxi (free) and made my way to the deeper of the two pool areas to enjoy some time in the resort. The 9 foot deep pool had waterfalls and caves to explore, and I really enjoyed that area. You could also jump or dive off the top of the caves, and there was a small slide as well. There was also a shallower connected pool to enjoy your drinks and socializing. Lounger and umbrellas were abundant. In the first of the two pools in the complex, there was a swim up bar, but it was closed due to covid. The waiters were wandering around, and were always happy to bring you a drink. Around noon, we were told that the buffet was open across the channel. We migrated there and had a Mexican buffet lunch that was quite tasty. After that, I headed back to the shallow pool and enjoyed the drinks there. When it was time to go back, I met some of the local reptile wildlife in the form of a few iguanas. The bus dropped us off in the cruise terminal (which is not where we started), where there was shopping to be had and some places serving food and drinks. Once through that area, there was a shuttle that ran frequently to take people back to the shipโyou wouldnโt want to walk around in that port area. It is a working port with semi trucks dropping off and picking up containers. Lots of activity. Once back on board, I had the lobster roll from the Seafood Shack. It came with two rolls, and French fries. It was very good. The Love and Marriage game show was the entertainment for the evening, and it was fun, as always.
