Creator's Key Takeaways
I'm excited to see those Princess rail cars with their glass domes and everything that's the one thing I've been looking forward to the most on this trip
I enjoyed that and then I got some of the spiked hot cocoa I don't remember what it was spiked with oh peppermint schnaps that's what it was it was good
the train ride for our portion was about 3 hours and I think if I did this again the half about half of the people in our car were actually going to go on to Denali
I had my big backpack and it fit at my feet without any problem at all and I still had you know a fair amount of leg room there so that that was pretty significant

Hello Travelers, In July of 2023, I did my first Alaska cruise tour with Princess cruises. If you haven’t done one of these before, it is a bit different than just going on a cruise. Today started bright and early when they came for the bags at 6am. I will see one of the bags at the next hotel, and the other when I get to the ship. In the meantime, I get to schlep around my ultra heavy backpack. No pity for self inflicted wounds. The bus was scheduled to leave after 9am and since I had a breakfast voucher for the train, I went off in search of coffee. Having been properly caffeinated, I headed out to wait for our bus. There is one area outside of the lobby where all the busses go, and that includes those of other cruise lines (Tauck was there, for example). The coordinator for Princess was out there letting us know how this would go, and that the busses for us would have signs in their windows to correspond with the information we got in our welcome packets. Mine said I was to be on Bus A, and she said it would have a big A in the front window when it arrived. The bus ride was short—just to the train depot. We then left the busses and got on those lovely glass topped train cars. This is the way I prefer to travel if I’m not on a cruise ship! The seats up top were assigned, and I had a whole row to myself. They were leather and there was lots of legroom even with my big ole backpack. The top deck had a bar tender at the front who would make drinks from a menu. I had a rum punch just for fun and it was tasty. We were then called down by rows to the dining car to have our breakfast. I waited until after the others had gone since I was working on my drink and didn’t want to abandon it. The breakfast menu was decent, and I ordered a Fisherman’s Platter, which was basically a bagel toasted with a scoop of salmon schmear. There was also fresh fruit, and it hit the spot. I also ordered their spiked hot chocolate, which was lovely spiked with peppermint schnapps. The train ride was several hours, but about half of the group was going to be on the train all the way to Denali. If I do this again, I will definitely make sure to maximize my train time instead of my bus time. After we arrived in Talkeetna, we were put on another bus to take us to the lodge. There was an option of wandering around the town, but it was raining and I had no rain gear. I’d left it in my suitcase by accident. I walk you around the main attractions of the property including the lodge building itself. I had dinner at 20,320 restaurant, which I had a voucher for. It was a nice place, and I went for breakfast as well the next day. Please like this video and subscribe to my channel to make sure you don’t miss future content. I have more videos for this cruise, as well as future cruises booked through the rest of this year and beyond. Thanks for watching!
