Creator's Key Takeaways

the chef doesn't want to do this for just one person because of course i'm a solar traveler in this trip and i am eating by myself at the table

they were basically discriminatory against solo travelers if they don't indicate on the menu that this is for two

it still sort of left a bad taste in my mouth that uh that they would you know initially even discriminate against people who were traveling by themselves

i've never really encountered that in any of the cruises i've been on before and so that was that was pretty surprising

YouTube Video Description↓

On August 21, 2021 I set sail on the Carnival Panorama for the restart of the west coast Mexico cruises. This is day 6 of the cruise, and our final port day. We docked in Cabo San Lucas, but this video is not about the day in port. That will be presented in a separate video, because I felt this subject should stand on its own. At the end of the day in Cabo, after returning to the ship, I had a reservation at the steakhouse on the ship: 555Β° Fahrenheit. The meal started out very well. There was an assortment of breads and butters, and I ordered the lobster bisque, which was creamy and delicious. I ordered the Wagyu Beef as my main dish, with a baked potato. However, after dinner, things went off the rails a bit. There was a fairly long gap between the server taking the dishes away, and the dessert course. I had ordered the Art at Your Table, which sounded like fun. However, after a time, the waitress came and told me that the Chef didn’t want to do that dessert for just one person, and was I interested in any of the other desserts? I was rather surprised and dismayed to hear that solo travelers were dismissed as not being worthy of this dessert. I had anticipated getting it on video, and had already set up the camera to film the presentation (since it is a dish that is really all about the presentation). So I told her that I would not have dessert, I wasn’t interested in anything else. She said that she would ask the chef to reconsider in that case, and she left. The woman at the table next to me asked what she had said, and I explained what the chef had indicated. She checked the menu, and verified there was no indication that this was a dessert to be shared by more than one person. And as I waited for the verdict about whether a solo traveler was valuable enough to warrant this presentation, she offered to sit at my table with me so they would have to do the presentation (assuming it came back as a second refusal). I was very grateful, since it meant I would at least be able to get the footage for the vlog, if the chef did not change their mind. Eventually, a chef (no idea if it is the same one who initially refused) came with the setup and did the Art at Your Table presentation (pared down for one personβ€”as I have seen since from videos on YouTube where it was done for two people), and I was able to get it on video. It is at the end of this video, so you can see what it is like when presented for a solo traveler. It was tasty, and I enjoyed both the presentation and actually eating the dessert, and I would recommend it to others who are dining at this venue. I wanted to highlight this experience, because sometimes people are hesitant to travel by themselves for fear of just this kind of discrimination. It really is unacceptable in a hospitality industry in particular. That said, did I raise a fuss and cause a scene? No, that is not how I handle things. However, I did indicate on my cruise survey what had happened and that it was eventually resolved. Please like this video and subscribe to my channel to make sure you don't miss future content. I have several more videos for this cruise, as well as future cruises booked through the rest of this year and beyond. Thanks for watching!
