About our Bacon Score methodology
YouTube Video Description↓

Hello Travelers, I boarded the Seabourn Odyssey on September 29, 2023 for my last cruise of the year. I had never sailed with Seabourn, and they are known as an ultra luxury line. I was very curious to see the differences in how they do things versus the main stream and even premium lines do. Today was disembarkation day from the ship. But they do several things to make it less painful. First, they let you have in room dining for breakfast, so you don’t have to go fight crowds in a buffet or dining room. Second, they set up a hospitality suite to store bags at a local hotel for those of us disembarking, but also wanting to go on a shore excursion at this port. They deliver our bags to that location, and we don’t have to lift a finger. And last, they give you all the customs forms to fill out ahead of time, and then have someone from Customs come to the ship and take are of that process before you leave. So disembarkation took like 3 minutes total. I then went to the dock where our tour was meeting, got on the bus and away we went to the Mendenhall Glacier. It was a short bus ride, maybe half an hour total. It was also very pretty, with the waterfalls coming off the mountains as we drove up. The Mendenhall Visitors Center is worth seeing before or after you have seen the glacier. There are several good places to see it and take pictures, and several trails around the area as well. I took the trail to Nugget Falls, which is to the right of the glacier. It is a beautiful waterfall, and a very easy walk of around a mile to get there. The path is paved until you get to the sand bar where the waterfall comes in. If you are mobility challenged, a wheelchair can easily make the trek, but you will have to use your own judgement about the sandy area, of course. There is also a lookout point that is still on the paved path that might be a better choice if in a wheeled conveyance. After the Nugget Falls trail, on the way back, there is another trail that leads to a good lookout point to the glacier. I followed that as well, and it was much shorter than the prior trail, and the lookout is beautiful. The bus picked us up, and we had several choices how to end the excursion. We could: 1. Go back to the dock where they picked us up 2. Go to the hotel that was storing our bags 3. Go to the airport I went to pick up my bags and head over to my own hotel (I had checked to see if I could just stay where the bags were, but they were already closed for the season). I checked into my hotel, as I am staying a couple of days in Juneau, and then had lunch at the local restaurant. It was a great end to this portion of the trip. I shall miss the Odyssey, she is a lovely ship. Please like this video and subscribe to my channel to make sure you don’t miss future content.
