Creator's Key Takeaways

I don't think I could recommend it for anybody for more than two or three nights, which is all we're doing.

The real problem, as you can see here, is storage for more than an odd day.

As a hotel, it's very nice. Um there are a few minor shortcomings, but nothing bad and I certainly wouldn't suggest people not use the hotel.

Creator's Tips & Advice

If staying at the Campanil Hotel, use a suitcase rather than small motorcycle bags due to limited storage.
Be aware that the Hotel Deval in Ieper does not serve evening meals and there are limited food options in the immediate area.

About our Bacon Score methodology
YouTube Video Description

We took our Kawasaki Versys 1000 SE to the Continent for the first time since 2022, when we rode to the Loire Valley. This time we visited Amsterdam, which we had never been to before, and Ieper (aka Ypres) which we last visited about 20 years ago. My maternal Grandfather served in the Royal Field Artillery from 1909 and was sent to Belgium in 1914 as part of 7th Division so I have an interest in the many WW1 memorials and museums in the area. The ride from Derby to Folkestone was dreadful, with several accidents on the M1 and M25 causing havoc and long delays. We stayed overnight at a Holiday Inn near the Channel Tunnel. Our plan to take an early train was thwarted when technical problems with some trains meant a backlog of commercial traffic, which was given priority over cars and, in particular, motorcycles. The 90-minute delay meant we had to push on to reach Amsterdam at a reasonable hour. The return trip was better but we suffered more delays on tis side of the Channel. It was an enjoyable trip but, in retrospect, was a mite ambitious. I hope you enjoy the video.
