From there we joined an excursion that took us to the nearby historic city of La Serena, one of the oldest cities in Chile. Along the drive from Coquimbo to La Serena we enjoyed views of the coastal landscape and saw how the region blends historic character with newer development. Once in La Serena, we visited the central town square, where the historic architecture and relaxed atmosphere give the city a classic Chilean charm. Our tour also included a stop at the iconic El Faro Monumental lighthouse, located along the beautiful Pacific Ocean coastline — a well-known landmark of La Serena and a popular place for visitors and locals alike. Throughout the excursion we saw the contrast between the older historic areas of La Serena and the more modern housing and development in Coquimbo, giving us a great overview of this part of Chile.
