Hanoi Vietnam: Stay at the Intercontinental Westlake, Train Street 1 & 2 and the Old Quarter

Today we fly from Vientiane to Hanoi and they roll out the Red Carpet for us. Literally. The Deputy Prime Minister was visiting and staying at the Crown Plaza so security was tight with armed guards on our floor and all around the hotel. We have a few flights with Vietnam Airlines unfortunately and it is always a gamble if the flight will even exist but that is part of the fun of travel. We take you on a tour of our hotel, the Intercontinental Westlake and stay there, of course, on points. We show you the breakfast and lounge before heading to Train Street 1. There are a few places to see this instagram moment I am sure you have seen before and we visit 2 of the most popular. They both give you a great experience and have multiple trains passing throughout the day. In the evening there are more people so we contacted Nam Vy Coffee via Whatsapp and they reserved a table so we could see 3 trains at night from different directions. With the 80th Anniversary of Independence and the Typhoon Kajiki closing in our time was limited so we did a short visit to St Joseph's Cathedral, the Old Quarter and a couple of the temples on Westlake and Haom Kiem Lake before escaping the rain in the Vincom Mega Mall. We only had 5 days and that became 3 with the storm but have seen many of the sights such as Long Bien Market, the B-52 Bomber and the Hanoi Hilton in 2017.
