today today is the penultimate day of our Norwegian cruise and we're at hogerson a location neither of us been to before
the ticket though suggested it was a lot more strenuous with extensive walking on uneven surfaces and steep grounds
the Viking Village is set on bocoy a small Island just off of the main island which is why the path crosses a number of bridges to get there

Content Today we are in the port of Haugesund, a picturesque coastal city in southwestern Norway, celebrated for its maritime heritage, stunning natural landscapes, and Viking history. We take a ship shore excursion to Avaldsnes one of the country's historically significant sites, often referred to as Norway's oldest royal seat. This area was a key centre of power during the Viking age and is closely associated with King Harald Fairhair, the first king of a united Norway. There we tour the Nordvegen History Centre, which explores the region's Viking and medieval history and find out more about the archeology, everyday life and the legends. Then it is a time for the short trip to a nearby, reconstruction of a Viking Farm on the island of Bukkøy which provides a fascinating glimpse into Viking life with viking themed guides, buildings and exhibits. Our final stop on the shore excursion is the stunning St. Olav's Church, a 13th-century stone church that dominates the landscape and was at the forefront of widespread adoption of christianity in Norway. We hear about the legend of the Virgin Mary's Needle and how priests prevent the area coming to misfortune. On the way back to the ship we stop off at Haugesund city centre, learn more about the "Amanda' and Norway's International Film Festival as well as seeing the pink historic town hall and other sites.
