Creator's Key Takeaways
We sold everything we owned to retire early and travel the world full-time.
The food was incredible. Some of the best food I've had actually while we've been traveling Southeast Asia.
It's absolutely stunning. And when you first leave, the mountains are quite high either side of you.
Top tip, if you are into taking photos and or want to see a little bit more, sit on the left hand side of the boat if you're going down river.

About our Bacon Score methodologyYouTube Video Descriptionβ
Today we leave Thailand to head to a new country, Laos. We leave the Anantara and stay for one night near the border at Chiang Khong at the Teak Garden Riverfront. This is not a luxury hotel but it is close enough to the border that we can get to the Thai Immigration office at the Friendship bridge early before we cross over to Laos. We heard all of the stories about Laos and having unmarked US currency in good condition and decided to not take the risk and applied for the E Visa online. It was more expensive, we waited longer as the computers were down and you still had to pay a "processing fee" of 50 Baht each anyway. We got in the coach and boarded our boat. On the face of it you may think this is not luxury but compared to the other cruises on offer it really was. We had an excellent tour guide in Por and the Boat Family took great care of us from the time we got onboard until we left. Food was good and plentiful and they even had power available when the captain put out the solar panels. The scenery is spectacular on both days and you can easily sit there taking photos ad watching the world go by. I tried to do some Youtube video editing but I gave up as there was so much to see. At the end of Day One we stayed at Le Grand Pak Beng. Between Black Mold, Power Outages and Landslides the stay was a bit Fawlty Towers but in the end we don't have to deal with it daily, and there were no spiders in the toilet. On Day 2 we had a couple of stops at Pak Ou Caves and Lao Lao Village before we arrive into Luang Prabang. The scenery is amazing on both days. We talk about the practicalities, cost and our experience on the cruise.
