YouTube Video Description

Join us for Episode 4 of our Marella Discovery 2 Highlights of the Med Cruise series, where we take on a mega 10‑hour Marella excursion to Rome — exploring iconic landmarks, soaking up the atmosphere, and rounding off the day with great food and a relaxed evening onboard. After disembarking in Civitavecchia, we boarded our Marella‑operated coach using just our cruise cards. At 8am, we set off, passing MSC Divina, Crystal Serenity, and Costa Smeralda as we left the port. The journey to Rome takes around 1 hour 45 minutes, plus a short comfort break, making it roughly 2 hours in total. Once in Rome, we were given headsets so we could hear our guide clearly — especially helpful as we’d been warned it was going to be busy. And just like that, our tour began! We admired the Arch of Constantine and the Colosseum, before continuing on to the Forum of Caesar. Next, we visited the Victor Emmanuel II Monument, keeping our eyes fixed on our guide’s flag as the streets grew busier. We soon arrived at the Trevi Fountain, grabbed the obligatory selfie, and continued through a beautiful shopping mall to Piazza Colonna to see the Column of Marcus Aurelius. Passing the Obelisk of Montecitorio, we reached Piazza della Rotonda, home of the Pantheon. As first‑timers in Rome, we were blown away by the architecture — every corner revealed something incredible. By the time we reached Piazza Navona, we’d definitely earned a lunch break. Our guide recommended a nearby restaurant where we enjoyed some authentic Italian food before wandering the square and soaking up the atmosphere. After regrouping, we walked through narrow streets to cross the Saint Angelo Bridge, admiring the river and the imposing Castel Sant’Angelo ahead of us. Eventually, we found ourselves in Saint Peter’s Square, with the Basilica right in front of us — a proper pinch‑me moment. The coach was only a short walk away, and soon we were heading back to port. The return journey took around 1 hour 20 minutes, quicker than the morning run. After a full 10‑hour excursion, we were more than ready to relax onboard. A refreshing dip in the pool was definitely needed! As we stepped out on deck, Costa Smeralda was firing up and heading out of port. With Marella Discovery 2 departing at 7pm, we grabbed a drink from the pool bar to enjoy sailaway. In the evening, we headed to The Glass House, which offers a relaxed semi‑alfresco dining experience with both complimentary and chargeable options. Gavin tucked into patatas bravas, garlic & chilli prawns, and ham & cheese croquettes. 👍 If you enjoyed this video, please give it a LIKE and SUBSCRIBE to support the channel and follow the rest of this cruise series. 🛳 Ship: Marella Discovery 2 🛏 Cabin: Inside Cabin 2595 - Watch our cabin tour here: https://youtu.be/9UpmPjlOO8Q 📍 Cruise Line: Marella Cruises 🎥 Filmed: 2026 💷 Cruise cost: We paid £850 per person for this 7 night all inclusive cruise -- with flights from London Gatwick 🚢 Book your next cruise with Cruise Monkeys Travel: https://cruisemonkeys.com/book or 📞 0330 880 5555 👕 Official Merchandise - https://cruisemonkeys.com/shop 🔔 Subscribe & follow along for more cruise adventures! 🚢✨ 📧 Sign up for our newsletter: https://cruisemonkeys.com/newsletter-signup/ 📲 Find us on social media - https://cruisemonkeys.com/socials 📧 For everything else, drop us an email at hello@cruisemonkeys.com 🐒🍌🚢 About Us - Who are the Cruise Monkeys?
