Some friends came to Alaska and we did some pretty cool things with them. We had dinner at Moose's Tooth on Sunday. Then on Monday we met for breakfast at Snow City Cafe in Anchorage before trekking down Turnagain Arm to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center with lots of stops along the way for photos. Laura, Cameron, Mary, and Scott continued on to Seward while Sherri and Adam and I swung through Whittier before returning home. Later in the week, Adam took me to 49th State Brewing Company for lunch, where I had a spectacular crabby grilled cheese on sourdough bread. It was fantastic! On Thursday we made homemade ice cream. Check out the recipe below. Homemade Ice Cream Recipe (makes about 1 gallon) Ingredients β’ 3 Tablespoons Corn Starch (heaping) β’ 6 Cups Whole Milk (divided) β’ 3 Cups Sugar (half may be substituted with Splenda) β’ 4 Large (or 5 Small) Eggs β’ ΒΎ Teaspoons Salt β’ 1 (13 oz) Can Evaporated Milk β’ 1 Quartt Half and Half or Whipping Cream β’ 3 Β½ Tablespoons Vanilla Extract (Or Other Flavoring) Directions β’ In a double boiler: o Combine cornstarch and 2 cups milk o Cook to thick and smooth consistency β’ Add eggs, sugar, salt, evaporated milk in blender β’ Add cornstarch mix to blender mix β’ Chill base overnight β’ Pour chilled mixture into freezing can β’ Add whipping cream and flavoring β’ Top with rest of milk β’ Freeze in ice cream churner β’ Fold in any nuts/chocolate chips/other food bits as desired β’ Chill in freezer until set β’ Enjoy!
