Flying Alaska Airlines First Class in a Pandemic | Los Angeles to San Francisco | Trip Report

On April 3, 2022, I flew first class on Alaska Airlines from Los Angeles (LAX) back to San Francisco (SFO) at the end of my cruise on Discovery Princess. This completed my journey to the Discovery Princess cruise ship, and her inaugural sailing. Here is the trip report. I got to the airport quite early for my flight from the ship’s transfer bus. So I opted to spend some time in the Alaska Airport Lounge. It was complimentary with my first class ticket, but you can also buy day passes from them. The lounge offers a full bar as well as some food, and of course a comfortable place to pass the time. Wifi is also available, and there are areas that are conducive to working if you need to get some things done while you wait. Masks are required to be worn as soon as you are on airport property, throughout the flight, and until you exit the airport property at your arrival location. They are requiring the “sip and cover” method of eating or drinking on the plane, so having your mask off during the drink or snack time is limited to when you are taking an actual bite of food or sip of liquid. This was enforced in the lounge particularly if you got up from your seat and walked somewhere inside the lounge. Staff would instruct you to use your mask when away from your seat. The flight was smooth and pleasant. The choice of Peatos as a “healthier” substitute for Cheetos was interesting. I don’t think I’d eat them again, but it was worth trying once. There was a “Mathematics Vintage and Modern” exhibit at SFO that I enjoyed seeing on my way out of the terminal. I’ve captured a little of it here at the end of the video.
